It was well after hours and, as he so often did, Archie had stayed late writing patient notes for their files. A CD of Baroque composers played softly in the background and a bright orange metal tea kettle sat on the hot plate boiling water for tea. Archie had found that a nice cup of chamomile tea always helped him calm down and relax after a stressful day of work. As much as he loved his job, it really could get rough having to listen to people's problems all day every day and never be able to talk about what he'd heard with anyone... or to talk about his own problems with anyone, for that matter. Not that he didn't have plenty of friends- he considered just about everyone in town to be his friends to some degree or another- but it just wouldn't feel right being a psychiatrist complaining to other people about his problems, so he kept them inside.
At the moment his mood was more meditative than melancholy, though, as he softly hummed along with the music while trying to decode the notes he had taken during a session he'd had with a man who was convinced his cat was plotting against him and turn them into something coherent. Archie could almost understand where the man was coming from, though- he'd never fully trusted cats, himself. He found dogs to be much more affectionate, loyal and straightforward with their feelings than cats. He looked over to Pongo, who was taking a snooze in the bed he had there at the office, his home away from home, and smiled.

Emma was sitting in her yellow bug car, completely lost in thoughts, holding both her hands on the wheel, tapping it with her thumbs. ‘Okay, so Henry is taking therapy sessions, just like Daniel…. That’s it, I just drive to Dr. Hopper and ask him what is causing this huge obsession of fairtytales. Or shouldn’t I do that? Oh come on Emma you want to know, and he will be the only one who is capable to tell you.’ After Emma convinced herself on going to Dr. Hopper she turned on the engine and drove towards him. Parking her car at the side of the road, close to his office she got out and walked towards the entrance. ‘you can’t do something wrong with just asking so just go for it’ she stood in front of his office door, holding her hand ready to knock the door.
She knocked the door quite hard, so he would certainly hear her knocking. Emma wasn’t really a very patient person so waiting for him to open the door wasn’t really an option. She gently opened to door herself and took a look around the corner of the door where she could see Dr. Hopper sitting, and writing in what seemed to be his files. “Hey, I’m sorry for bothering you, can I come in?” Actually that was a complete superfluous question since she was already inside his office, but it seemed her nice to ask first before she would close the door.

The sudden loud knock at the door startled him. He wasn't expecting anyone in at this time of night, but maybe it was a patient with an emergency? He was just about to get up and see when the door opened and Emma Swan poked her head in.
"No, it's all right, of course you can come in. What can I do for you?" he asked. Just then the tea kettle began to whistle, and he reached to turn it off. "I was just about to make some chamomile tea. Care to join me in a cup?" It was only polite to offer, after all.
He set about making the tea (one cup if Emma declined, two if she wanted one, too) and then promptly closed the folder sitting open on the desk. He didn't mind Emma being there, but he wasn't going to have strangers' files open there in front of her where she might see them. That would be a violation of doctor-patient confidentiality. He gestured towards the comfortable sofas that dominated the office and carried his own teacup over. It would be a more comfortable place to sit and talk about whatever she had come for. And maybe he would get to ask the question that had been plaguing his mind earlier, now that he had her alone. But first he would hear out whatever she had to say.

After Archie gave his permission to enter the office, Emma closed the door gently. When Archie offered her a cup of tea, she thanked for it. “no, no thanks, I’m not staying that long I just wanted to ask you something actually” She saw how Archie poured himself a cup of that ‘who knows what’ tea and when he gestured to the sofa’s she took a seat on one of them.
Knowing she would only sit there for a few minutes, she just sat on the edge of the sofa. “Actually I’m here about Henry” She folded her hands together, holding them on her legs. “just tell me something. His fairy tale obsession… what is causing it?” looking at him seriously she really wanted to know what was causing it. Maybe she could do something about it when she knew.

Emma declined the cup of tea, so he only made the one for himself. He didn't drink it right away when he sat on the couch, of course; it had to brew to the right strength first. But he held it in his hands while waiting, liking the weight and warmth of the cup in his hands.
"All right, then, what did you want to ask?"
Emma took a seat just on the edge of the sofa, not allowing herself to relax, he noticed. And when she spoke, she jumped right to the question without any sort of small talk or pretense leading into it. She wanted information about Henry. She wanted to know where his obsession with fairy tales came from.
"Well, Henry's always had a big imagination, but his fascination with fairy tales didn't come about until Sheriff Blanchard gave him a book of fairy tales about a month ago. Somehow he became convinced the stories were true and that everyone in town was someone out of one of those fairy tales. Where he got that idea I'm still not sure," he said. "The only thing I know is that the fairy tales in that book play out differently than the usual versions, and he seems to think the versions he has are the true and accurate ones. I don't think he would have the same thoughts and feelings were this just a standard storybook with all the usual versions. It seems to be something about this particular book that appeals to him."

“But don’t you think that’s a bit…” ‘should I use this word or not? Okay, just say it’ “…crazy?” By everything he was telling to Emma, he wasn’t really telling something she didn’t know yet. But the one things she did notice was that Henry and Daniel were in therapy with Dr. Hopper for a longer time than a month. She wanted to be sure if that was really the case. “But he got the book a month ago. Has he been seeing you longer than that? And Daniel as well?” Emma saw the look in Archie’s face, and that was just telling her enough. “It’s Regina isn’t it?” she frowned her eyebrows, she just knew it, again it was Regina…. And she was getting sick of it.

Archie frowned as Emma used a word he, as a psychiatrist, never liked to hear; she said Henry's ideas were crazy.
"That's not the word I would use," he insisted. "He just seems to have a little trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality. That's actually common in younger children, but usually before they reach Henry's age they've learned to tell the difference. I'm worried he may be suffering from delusions, which may require medications. But one has to be careful medicating someone Henry's age, which is why I've been hesitant."
Then Emma pointed out how the children had been seeing him for more than the month Henry had owned the book, and she deduced even without his saying anything that it was because of Regina.
"She did ask that the children be seen, but I wouldn't still be seeing them now if I hadn't found anything wrong. I-it would take too long to explain here and now."
He was tempted to just hand over the files so she could see for herself, but he hesitated; he couldn't be entirely sure this woman was really the twins' biological mother, even if both she and they seemed not to be questioning it.
"Have you considered having DNA testing done to make sure these really are your children?" he asked. "Just because some website said you were doesn't necessarily make it true, and don't you want to be absolutely sure before you make any sort of commitment? It would be almost cruel to bring a woman into their lives saying she is their biological mother, have them get attached, only to tell them later it was all a big misunderstanding."

“medication?” Emma frowned her eyebrows and sounded surprised by what the doctor told her. “you mean like drug him?” She wasn’t loving that idea, no one should drug a child. And certainly not when it was her child. Okay so he had a lot of fantasy, and okay maybe it wasn’t usual that children Henry’s age were still having so much of fantasy, but that couldn’t be a reason to just drug him and get over with it. Emma decided to keep herself calm about that, but if this plan on giving him medication would be coming active, then Emma would know where to go to first. Was this man really starting about DNA tests now? Emma really didn’t want to talk about that. She had her reasons to believe that those kids were hers. Not only because they were indeed having their birthday’s when her own twin was born, also the fact that it was a twin was giving her the prove that she was indeed their mother. Emma was also very good in feeling if someone was lying, and those kids when they were in her apartment in Boston, weren’t definitely not lying. Emma had all the prove she needed about it. Emma crossed her arms when Archie finished talking about DNA testing. “Do you really think I drove all this way from Boston, trying to get to know the reason why they are having ‘problems’ and being threatened by their adoptive mother Regina once, if I wasn’t sure they weren’t my children?” Emma frowned her eyebrows again and hoped she made her point there. “I don’t think so”“I don’t need prove with letters written on white paper that I’m their mother, I have my own way on knowing that it is true.”tagged: Archie Hopper

Emma seemed to choose all the wrong words to say when talking to a psychiatrist. "I wouldn't call it 'drugging', no. The medication would only help clear up his thinking so he'll be able to more easily distinguish between facts and delusions. Normally such medication isn't used before age thirteen, however, hence my hesitation to use it on him at his current age. It's not that it's unsafe, just that it would require careful dosage and close supervision to make sure he'll be all right on it," he tried to explain. Emma didn't even want to talk about the possibility of DNA tests. She said she had her own way of knowing they were her kids, which he wondered what that could be. Did they have some kind of identifying marks she could look for, or maybe she was just going on her instincts? But instincts could be wrong, just like websites could. He really would've felt better if she had agreed to the DNA test. But if she was that sure... Sighing softly, he set his teacup down on the table and walked over to his filing cabinet. If it turned out this woman wasn't the boys' mother, he would be in big trouble for this. Opening the file cabinet, he took out the paper files for both Mills boys and offered them to Emma. "Here, you can read for yourself what they've been going through and why they're in therapy," he said. "Believe me when I say there's no malice behind their reasons for being here or the treatments they're being given. They've really been going through some things, and I'm only trying the best I know how to help them." Tag: Emma Swan

“Well, I’m sure medication won’t be necessary doctor Hopper.” Emma stood up from the couch when Dr. Hopper gave her Henry’s and Daniel’s files. “Thanks for giving me these, I promise you will get them back first thing tomorrow.” Taking the files in her own hands now, she was actually surprised by the amount of papers there already were in their file maps. Emma looked at the doctor and gave him a grateful but small smile. “I know you’re trying to do your best doctor” she took a few steps towards the office door again “thanks again for these files, I better get back to where I’m staying and start read those, if I want to be finished by tomorrow.” Another small smile appeared on her face. “See you tomorrow morning then” Archie Hopper

"I hope it won't be necessary, but we'll see where things go." He couldn't promise her medication wouldn't be needed, because he wasn't psychic (even though that would've been a cool power to have) and thus couldn't tell the future. "I'm just glad you're concerned about the boys' well-being. You didn't have to be; you could've put them on a bus and stayed home and never even given them another thought, but you chose to come back and try to be a part of their lives. I don't think most people would've done that." He nodded when she offered to bring the files back the next morning. While there was another copy he kept at home just in case, he still couldn't afford to lose the originals permanently. Emma left with a smile on her face, and that should've been the end of it, but after she had left Archie picked up his phone and called the Mills residence. Regina was the children's mother, after all. She had a right to know about the sharing of the files, and he just had to hope she didn't mind that he'd done it, or it could be trouble. Not necessarily legal trouble; as long as Emma was indeed the twins' biological mother she had as much right to know what was going on with the twins as Regina did. But having Regina angry at you was never a good thing, as powerful and influential as she was. Tag Regina Mills (if you want) or else thread end.

Regina was working on paperwork in her office when the phone, reach over the files of agendas for the town."Hello? " the council woman paused when she recognize whose voice it was. The bug,"How Dr. Hopper?" She asked twirling a pencil between her fingers.
"You did what ?!??!" She shrieked and snapped the pencil in half with one hand."You think she had right well . I can reassure she doesn't Dr. Hopper she wanted a closed adoption that what she got. Not hey in a few years I'm going to drop by!" Throwing the yellow broken pencil across the room. Regina was so angry over him stepping his bounds on this matter.

When he told Regina he had given Emma the twins' files, she didn't take it very well. In fact, he was sure he heard a dry snapping sound in the background and cringed a little, wondering what she had broken. "I just wanted her to understand the situation and what the boys are going through," he tried to defend his decision. "If she really is the twins' biological mother, which she refuses to take a DNA test, but says she's sure she is, she has every right to see those files." That was when Regina informed him Emma had wanted a closed adoption and didn't have any right to come back into the kids' lives now. "Just remember, they were the ones who sought her out, not the other way around," Archie said. "Emma didn't do anything wrong there. And adopted children go in search of their birth parents all the time, even in the case of a closed adoption. I don't think there are any laws against it." He worried what she might do now that she knew Emma had the files, and hoped to talk her down from it. Tag Regina Mills

"Dr. Hopper stop!!! You gave my sons files to someone who may or may not be their mother. You just put my sons lives in danger. I could have you barred from practicing for this you understand this?" Regina fuming this bug of a man dare tell her this and how the boy went to look for Emma why do people keep mentioning that! Her left starts to twitch from the aggravation this Dr.Hopper has caused her. Lifting her hand up to place her finger taught against her eyes twitching corner and pulled tightly to get it to stop. "You will fix this Doctor or that stupid little umbra will be your new home!" She needed to think quick on how to fix this situation, that when the idea to say Emma stole them came to mind. "On second thought Dr. Hopper I have this so don't you worry. I shall clean up your mess." She hung up with the good doctor and called the sheriff ... Archie Hopper

Archie listened silently as he was scolded for giving the files to a woman who may not even be the twins' mother. He deserved that. He should've insisted on the DNA test before letting Emma see those files. But she had seemed so sure, he let himself believe her even without it.
"I-I'm sorry," he said meekly. "I can... well, assuming she's at Granny's..." and it wasn't like there were a lot of other places to go in town... "I could go over and tell her I made a mistake and ask for the files back."
That was when Regina told him not to worry, that she would clean up his mess, and he became worried by her tone of voice as she said it. It didn't sound like she meant to just go over and ask for the files back nicely.
"What are you planning to do?" he asked, but she had already hung up. Archie hung up his phone, worried. But what could he do? Call the police and tell them if something happened to Emma it was Regina's fault? You couldn't exactly report a crime before one was committed. And anyway, Regina was very influential. He figured it would be hard to get anyone to listen to a complaint about her even if he did file one, and harder still to keep her from finding out he was the one who filed it.
Archie sat back down with his teacup in hand. He didn't think he'd get any more work done on patient notes tonight, but he didn't quite feel like going home, either. Looking at his teacup, he thought he needed something stronger than chamomile tea to get him through tonight. Opening up his bottom desk drawer, he took out a glass and a bottle of scotch. It wasn't that he drank much or often, but some days after a difficult patient it was necessary... and today after dealing with his patients' warring mothers, it most definitely was.
Thread end I think (unless anyone else has something to add)
