" sorry! we have to take a picture of everyone who comes in.
it turned out nice, though! now, shall we get started? "
---
" hi! it's so great to have you here.
care to introduce yourself? "
My name is Archibald Hopper, but in my past life I was named Jiminy. My age? Gosh... probably well over 100 by now, though I like to think I look a lot younger. In my life I've been a grifter, a surrogate father and a conscience... you could say I'm still in the conscience business- I'm the town psychiatrist now.
" great! so, where are you from,
and when is your birthday? "
I was born September 7th in the Enchanted Forest. My parents were grifters and raised me in the same lifestyle, although that was never what I wanted to be. Even as a child I knew what they did was wrong, and I wanted to be good, so I was constantly trying to talk them out of their stealing and pulling scams.
" so tell me a bit about your personality.
what makes you tick? "
I'm a pretty boring person, really. I like reading and watching documentaries on TV. My favorite music is early jazz and classical. I like comfort food like mashed potatoes or mac and cheese. I like tea a lot, or coffee first thing in the morning. I place a high value on the idea of freedom, although the reality of it has often eluded me. I'm not as good a person as I want to be, but I always try to do my best and put my whole heart into everything I do. I like to think of myself as a pretty happy person, though. I have a lot of friends here in town, and I love my job. I just sometimes resent that due to people like Dr. Phil, we psychiatrists aren't always taken as seriously as we should be.
" wow! i feel like i know you already.
tell me what you've been up to lately. "
Well, I spent some fifty or sixty years as a cricket, first raising Geppetto after I accidentally turned his parents into wooden puppets, and later helping raise and guide his own living puppet son, Pinocchio. I acted as an official royal advisor to the Charmings for a while, too. But for the past twenty-eight years I've been living in Storybrooke, Maine, as the town psychiatrist. I have a Dalmatian dog named Pongo whom I like to take for walks at least once or twice a day, if not more, and a lot of times he even goes to work with me! I haven't got any human children of my own, so Pongo is kind of a surrogate for the son I've never had.
" speaking of your family,
tell me about them. "
My parents' names were Martin and Myrna, and as I've said, they were grifters. They ran puppet shows and magic shows, and were pretty successful at that, but they felt they had to supplement their income by stealing or scamming money out of people. I have my dog, Pongo, who's practically like a child to me. And I acted as kind of a surrogate father to Geppetto and, to an extent, to his son, Pinocchio. And I know I shouldn't get so close to my patients, but I've become almost like a surrogate father to the Mills boys as well, in the time I've been treating them.
" okay, this one's between you and me.
got any skeletons in the closet? "
Skeletons? Me? Well, um... I do keep a bottle of scotch in my bottom desk drawer... you know, for after those really tough patients. It's hard sometimes, having to hear people's problems and feelings all day and never being able to tell anyone... or to not have anyone to tell my own problems and feelings to, for that matter. Just between the two of us, I get a little depressed, myself, sometimes.
" okay. a little more personal..
are you seeing anyone? "
No, but I haven't given up hope! I'm sure the right woman for me is out there somewhere, just waiting to meet me. But whoever she is, she has to love dogs, because Pongo and I are a package deal.
" well thanks for answering all the questions!
we'll get back to you, okay? "
Wait, what was this interview for, anyway? Some sort of matchmaking site?
" alright, one last thing..
sign this waiver, please? "
